Winding Down...

On Sunday, I was in Tivoli, the big amusement park in Copenhagen, with my friend Evan. I went on almost all the rides there for a long time. I conquered my fear of rides, and am ready to go on anything that is not tilt-a-whirl-ish. Here is a link to a video I took on the roller coaster. The frogs started getting packed in there and so I let almost all of them out. We kept all of the ones that are still minoes and a few that are frogs now. School is winding down. We have lots of days where teachers are gone now, and it is as strange as ever to me. We have 14 days now until we head home. I am amazed at how fast it went. I dont know how to feel, happy or sad, about going home. I definately am excited about seeing all of you great people over there again! Bye for now!

To Malmø

Yesterday, we went to Sweden, To Malmø as you might have guessed from the title. It was a lot of fun. It was a somewhat short car ride, followed by a somewhat very expensive bridge. In town, we walked all around downtown. After that, we went to my dad's old friend's house. We had yummy burgers, and I played with their 2 kids, who were very energetic. When it was time to leave, the girl didn't want us to, and when we got into the car, she started crying.
It was a fun trip, and now I have been to Sweden!!

Trip to Sønderborg

This last week, my entire grade was on a week-long field trip! We all met at the train station in downtown Roskilde, and then took a train to a town called Sønderborg in Jylland and Als. It was a 3.5 hour long train ride, but soon enough we arrived. We smoothly cought a bus over to the Als part of town, and then showed up at the hotelish place. We couldn't go into our rooms immediately so we had to put all our baggage in a small room by the entrance. Then, without wasting any time, we went out to find lunch. It was about a 2 mile walk over to the walking street, where we found a burger/hotdog place and ate. After spending an hour waiting for the food to be prepared, (because there were so many of us), we headed out to the Sønderborg castle. We walked around with a tour guide, and had some fun. Then, the teachers let us go, by ourselves, back to the hotel. I was quite surprised by this, because a. we had only just seen the town, and b. because... well... it just would NEVER happen in USA. Our little group, got an ice cream and then headed straight home. When we got back, we played some soccer, and then ate dinner, played more soccer, and then hung out in our little room. In our room, slept, Mikkel, Rasmus, Jens, Christian, and I. We hacked the TV, because you had to pay 5 dollars otherwise, and then went to sleep.
On Tuesday, the grade went to Germany to see a castle, but Jens and I had forgotten our passports. It was a let down, but we had a fine time. We slept in until about 9, and then walked into town. Then, Jens said, "why dont we go to the tanning salon and get a tan". I was not expecting this... We decided to but we didnt have any coins. So we went into town. In town, I bought a zippo lighter, which you can do magic tricks with. Then we bought a couple of Coca-Colas, and went back to the tanning booth, this time with coins. After we were done, we went back to the hotel and slept for about an hour, until the rest of the class showed up. From here on out, it was the same as yesterday.
On Wednesday, we went to Dybbøl Mølle (Mølle = mill). The cool thing about this mill, is that it still works! It was about a 10 Kilometer walk there, and about a 8 Kilometer walk back.

After the mill, we went to a fort from 1864, when the Danes were fighting back against the Germans. We saw the barracks and the kitchens and the smithy and all that fun stuff. Then we walked home, and ate dinner. After dinner, the teachers decided that we hadn't walked enough, so they planned a walk around the city. It was about a 10 kilometer walk and a pretty nice tour of the city. When we got home again, we played some soccer, and at 10, we went into our room. This night was different, because we had a case of like 30 energy drinks. Jens and Christian, decided they would drink a lot of them and stay up late. They ended up drinking about 10 each and stayed up until 2:30. It was very crazy. Just when I managed to go to bed however, I woke up with a huge glob of toothpaste in my hair!! Luckily, i saw Christian above my head, so I wiped as much as I could into my hand and spread it all over his face.
Thursday, the day before we left, we went to Danfoss, which is a theme park in Jylland. It was more a science experience than a theme park experience. But it was fun. My favorite 2 things were a. that all the workers rode on ....... brain fart. cant think of the word. and b. well, just watch the video!

Then on Friday, it was time for the long ride home. It was very similar to the trip there. I got a ride home with Jacob and Rasmus and that was that!

Nothing Very Exciting...

Well, there is not a whole lot going on for a little while here. I almost went to a soccer game on Sunday, and we went to the woods on Saturday. The frogs are doing very well. All have hatched and they are just starting to swim a little. The week after next, my class is going to Jutland. That should be fun! (Jutland is the big part of denmark). I will post if anything exciting happens, but for now there is not a whole lot to say...
bye!

Raising Frog eggs!!

On Saturday, my dad, sister and I went to a lake that recently Dad had found strange eggs in. He took me there on Thursday to look at them. We read somewhere that what we were looking at were frogs eggs, and that they are very easy to raise! So, we took a bucket over to the lake and fished out about 100. (there were so many eggs there that we made no impact whatsoever). They are very gooey and strange. The outside is see-through, so you can see the little frogs inside! You cant actually tell that they are frogs inside, they just look like specs at the moment. I would take pictures, but unfortunately my mother has the camera. So when she gets back, (I think on Wednesday), you can expect pictures up!
Bye for now!

Week End!

Hi everyone! Im am ever so sorry about the ever so long wait for a new post... I finished this school week, and now its 2 months and 20 days until we return. Im not exactly happy about going home but im very excited none the less. I am happy with my danish but not proud yet. I can understand almost everything but i need a little help with saying things. I just posted a video on youtube that gives a little tour of our house here in Himmilev so here is the link: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sQxQdRwSXEc
Anyways, I have been working on making a song on a computer program called "fl studios" and hopefully you will see that on youtube very soon. I will make a seperate post for that. Outdoor soccer started last week. I am very happy about that, but i wish that indoor soccer would continue... I dont quite feel like the odd one out of the bunch in school now, even though every once in a while they poke fun at me.
The weather is starting to warm up now, and i wake up in daylight now. Yesterday my mom, dad, and I went on a walk through Copenhagen, and bought dad some very nice hand made slippers. We also ate at a wonderful, not too expensive, Thai restaraunt that was amazingly delicious. After the Snow family left, they left lots of thing with them including their cell phones. My dad is letting me use one of them! I am almost finished with the book "the subtle knife" and it is amazing! Its the second book of "his dark materials" (the first being the golden compas).
Well, I will post soon to give you the link to my song!
But for now Goodbye!

Project Week

For the last week, my class has been working on a big project. We are paired in groups, and I am with one of my friends Mikkel. We are making a project about Criminality. I have made a powerpoint, discussing the difference in crimes committed in the USA and in Denmark. As it turns out, in USA, 1 out of every 100 people are in jail! I think that this is insane! Anyways, in US, 40% of people in jail are black, 16% are asian, 12% are hispanic, and 1% of everyone else. And i read, that 1 out of every 3 black men have spent some amount of time in jail. I just could not believe what I was reading!
Sorry about the VERY long break between this and the last post, but I feel a little discouraged to write about my blog if no one posts. So go and sign up for blogspot and post =)
Bye!

Visiting the Snows

For the last 2 days, I have been at the Snows house. (my cousins) I arrived at the main Copenhagen train station, and met Axel. We took a train to a main plaza, and walked around going into shops here and there. I bought two shirts at a cheap store named the NewYorker. After this, it was about 12:30 and we headed back to Axel's house. When we got there we decided to play some frisbie. After a while of that, we went to a fort with cannons and stuff! Then we headed home. We ate dinner, then went back to the main plaza, which has a skating rink in the middle. Axel, Kaj, and I rented some skates, and circled the plaza a few times. Then, we headed home, for some tea, and then some sleep.
In the morning, Axel and I picked up their bike, that was at the bike store, got some milk, then went back home and kicked around a soccer ball. For the rest of the day, we pretty much hung out on the computer. At around 4:20, we left Copenhagen for Roskilde in their brand new rented car! We had a feast here with another family from Denmark that we know from dads work, and one of the sons goes to my school in my grade. But as all parties go, it came to an end....
Please comment on things you like/dislike about my blog, or just to say hi, It really makes my day!!
Until next time!

Soccer

Today, my dad and I went to a soccer match in London. The thing that surprised me the most, was the crowd. In matches in USA that I have been to, all of the crowd sings the national anthem, and then doesn't really make any other noise. Here, Its the opposite. First off, the songs are crowd competition on which crowd can make the most noise, and Secondly, when something big happens, they all roar with emotion!
The game was Fuhlum vs. Aston Villa. We cheered for Fuhlum because there were many american players on the team. There was Clint Dempsey, and Brian McBride. And Eddie Johnson and Carlos Bocanegra, who did not play.
On other subjects, yesterday, our family used a lot of the Tube, which is the underground system in London. I think it is absolutely amazing. You can get anywhere you need to go for a fairly cheap price, and fairly quickly.
Mostly we just walked around London. But we also went to a play, Friday night.
I am having a wonderful time in London! I will write later!
bye for now

At the Snows house.

For the last two days, I have been at my cousin Axel and his family's house. My dad and mom and I went to their house for dinner on Friday right after school, and I decided to spend the night there afterwards. Axel and I played on the drum set that their house contains and also poker and some computer games while his parents were at a jazz concert. Then, after a late night of hangin' out, I went to bed at about 12 p.m.

In the morning, Axel and I decided to go to the expirimentarium that is in downtown Copenhagen, close to where they live. When we got there, being it Saturday, the place was packed and had a long, long line. So, we went to the shopping mall right next to it, thinking that we had hit mid-morning rush. After browsing the shops, we went back to the expirimentarium and sure enough, the lines had cleared up a little and it was no problem getting inside. Inside, there were lots of fun science experiments that we had fun with. My favorite, was guitar strings, in front of a spinning wheel that had white stripes on it. It showed the waves that the guitar string makes sort of like sound waves. If you have a hard time picturing it, Axel put a video up on youtube which is: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YGcAGaOUs9w
I hope you liked that!
There were other cool things that, if you want me too, just tell me to post another blog about all of the projects in there.

Sunday morning, we met my family and Kaj, who had been staying in Roskilde during this period, and had a nice breakfast planned out. It was a restaurant that the Snows had been to and raved about. When we got there, it turned out, that the tables were reserved until 1 p.m. But, we just went into an art museum that was having a jazz concert and ate in there. Then we looked at the art, and finally, saw the jazz concert. And, after a quick bus ride, and then some car driving, the Kildegaards were home, and Otto could not wait to post this blog!

Until next time!

In School Tuesday

Well, today my schedule is short and school should have ended at 12:45. But... unlike in USA, here, when a teacher is gone, instead of having a substitute, we just get out early. I was supposed to have 2 periods of Physics/Chemistry, followed by a Danish class. But the Physics/Chemistry teacher was gone. The Danish teacher, Mette, was going to just have the Danish class and then we could leave for home, but she was in a different class then, so we just sat around and talked. Then she came in when we would have had the 2nd Physics/Chemistry class and after that, we got out at 11:20.
The reason I tell you this is because I find this as a very big difference from in my school in Morris.
Until next time!

Embarrassing Man!

Today, like the other days, I was just casually riding in the bus. I was sort of daydreaming about who-knows-what, when I thought to myself that the bus stop should be coming up anytime now, so I glanced out the window, and sure enough, there goes my bus stop, rolling into the distance... I may have cussed out loud, im not sure, but the point is, I wasn't in a great mood. I pressed the stop button hoping that the next stop would be in walking distance from Gundsølille, the town that my school is in. The next stop turned out to be about 3 kilometers from Gundsølille. I checked the bus schedule to see if I could catch a bus over there, and sure enough, the bus was coming in about 10 minutes. So, in about 8 minutes, I realized, that my bus pass (which was payed for distinct locations) wouldn't work with 358 bus in Tåstrup, the town I was in. This didn't improve situations for my self of steam either. I decided, that I had no choice but to walk back to Gundsølille. So I walked along the road, as person after person, looked at the strange boy who was walking with a schoolbag along the road. Finally when I got to school, as expected, my friends laughed at me.
This is the story of the day Otto got embarrassed.

The Snows came to visit.

Today Axel, Kaj, Lise, and Luther, came over for a while. When they showed up, about 1 p.m. we immediately went out the door and all squished into our little peugeot! With Kaj, Axel, and myself in the "trunk", we had a pretty fun adventure. Once we got there, (I cant remember where it was at the moment), we walked by the fjord, out onto some docks and absorbed the wonderful view. Then we went into a church yard and looked at all of the graves. There were I think 2 people named Otto! There were also some named Arne, Axel, Lise, and Kaj! After this we came home in the squished peugeot once more... But we made it and once we got home, we had happy hour followed by a nice and friendly (not!) game of spoons. Following this I played video games with Axel, and finally we ate Dinner and dessert. After some youtube watching, they decided to leave us, and here I sit writing this down. For now it is a farewell!
